Mr. Juhl was born June 11, 1878 in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Juhl. He came to this country on June 14, 1892, and had resided in the Joy area since. On Oct. 28, 1935, he was married to Florence M. Jacobs in Aledo. He was a retired painter and paper hanger. Mr. Juhl was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are the widow; a son, George Juhl of Rock Island; four stepsons, Wilbur Jacobs, of Davenport, Samuel Jacobs of Rock Island, Dwane Jacobs of Portland, Ore., and Franklin Jacobs of Andalusia; two sepdaughters, Mrs. Pauline Graber of Bloomdale, Ohio and Mrs. Nellie B. Lacaci of Chicago; 16 step-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren. A daughter preceeded him in death." Seperate article of thanks by Florence: "Many thanks to Dr. Miller, the hospital, nurses'aides, also to the nursing home, who all helped to take care of my husband while he was there since Oct. 16, 1965. Thanks to the many friends and neighbors for food brought to my home, also the cards and telephone calls. Many thanks to Mr. Allen Olin, and his wife, Roberta. Thanks to the pallbearers. Am grateful to all at this time in our hour of sorrow ant the loss of father and husband. The family of Mrs. Peter Juhl. George Juhl, Wilbur Jacobs, Samuel Jacobs, Charles Jacobs, Franklin Jacobs." Additional Comments: **Peter H. Juhl was born in Hamburg, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany; Immigrated through Hamburg, Germany port; per obituary and census records on the 11th of June 1878. He was the son of Peter & Hedwig Hattie Peterson Juhl of Hamburg, Germany as well. From the records we now know for sure that Peter Juhl did immigrate to the United States on June 14, 1892 with his parents and siblings when he was 15-16 years old from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany; That in 1898 he married Lilly Anna Stoecken, and that on October 30, 1899 he became a United States citizen in Davenport, Iowa. He lived in Davenport for at least 8 years by the 1900 census, and had one daughter Evalina then with his wife Lilly. He was working and living in Martin County, Minnesota in 1909 due to a post card and several others addressed to him at that time up until the early 1930's along with being in the 1920 census records at that time in Martin County, Minnesota as well. In 1935 he was in Mercer County, Illinois, and married Florence Hand Jacobs. Peter & Florence's son George was born in 1937 in Joy, Mercer County, Illinois. Peter died in Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois in July of 1970 after having had a stroke and several years of illness. He was in a nursing home in Aledo shortly before his death. His wife Florence Mae Hand Jacobs Juhl had moved from Joy to Aledo to be with her husband prior to his death.
