The history from Warren Moses Hurlburt/Hulbert to the present may all be found in Montgomery County, Il. You will note in this lineage, that in every generation, the spelling of the name varied until W.M. Hurlburt/Hulbert's descendants in Montgomery County, Il would forever leave it spelled Hulbert! Hurlbut/Hurlburt/Hulbert Genealogy Richard Hurlbut was born November 1574 in Bratton, Wiltshire, England. Richard married Ann Bower on 03 May 1606. Richard died 19 September 1637. Richard and Ann (Bower) Hurlbut were the parents of the following children: Abigail Hurlbut Walter Holburd Thomas Hurlbut John Hurlbut William Hurlbut William Hurlbut was born 02 May 1612 in England. He married an Ann ?. William Hurlbut died 17 April 1694 in Northampton, Massachusetts. William and Ann Hurlbut were parents of the following children: John Hulbard John Hulbert Sarah Hurlbut Ann Hurlbut William Hurlbut Notes: William came to Dorchester, Massachusetts on the "Mary and John"in 1630, he sold land there in 1635. Was at Windsor, Connecticut before 1640 (probably 1635-1636), removed to Hartford where his first wife died. He married second wife, Ann, widow of Samuel Allen, who was buried in Windsor 28 April 1648. This marriage was before 26 September 1653. Believe William Jr. and perhaps Ann were children of second wife. Removed to Northampton, Massachusetts 1657 or earlier and was charter member of the church there. From the "History of Northampton" by L.R. Trumbull (1898) page 37; "The lots upon the highways just named having been occupied, settlers began to cluster around Meeting House Hill. William Hulbert is first mentioned as having a home lot in that vicinity. He had four acres with a boundary near the present line of Gothic Street. South of him were John Ingersoll and Thomas Salmon. Above William Hulbert, where the Parochial School now is, was the homestead granted to Nathaniel Phelps. His son, Nathaniel Phelps Jr; had a grant of his father and together they owned a strip of land bordering on Park Street, from King Street brook to Prospect Street. A highway very nearly coinciding with Gothic Street, gave access to the brickyard, located on the brook and Hulbert an outlet." He is listed as a passenger (William Hulbirt) of the Winthrop Fleet in 1630. His vessel landed at Boston with his destination Northampton, Massachusetts. (Planters of the Commonwealth-Banks). William Hurlbut was born about 1654 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. William married Mary Howard about 1693, Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. William and Mary (Howard) Hurlbut were parents of the following children: Thomas Hurlbut Ruth Hurlbut Obadiah Hurlbut (died in infancy) Abigail Hurlbut William Hurlbut Mary Hurlbut Obadiah Hurlbut (Named after first infant Obadiah) Ebenezer Hurlbut Anna Hurlbut Benjamin Hurlbut The above William Hurlbut's second marriage was to Ruth Salmon and they had a child named: Berechiah Hurlbut Notes: William and his wife Mary Howard moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where three children were born (1705-1710). After Mary Howard's death the family returned to Enfield, Connecticut. They had five children in all. Obadiah represented his mother's interests in Howard lands. Obadiah Hurlbut was born 08 August 1703 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Obadiah married Esther Colton on 04 January 1745 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. An intention of marriage was entered 15 December 1744. Obadiah died 13 November 1784 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Children of Obadiah and Esther (Colton) Hurlbut were: Esther Hurlbut Ebenezer Hurlburd (served in the Revolutionary War) Job Hulburd Eliphalet Hurlbut Mehatable Hurlbut Asa Hurlbut The above Obadiah Hurlbut's second marriage was to Love Parsons on 22 January 1730 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Children of Obadiah and Love (Parsons) Hurlbut were: William Hurlbut Love Hurlbut Tryphena Hulberd Obadiah Hulberd Deborah Hulberd Sarah Hulberd Notes: Obadiah Hurlbut's tombstone reads "Altho we moulder in the dust, In God through Christ we put our trust." His stone says he was 83 years old when he died. Intention to marry Love Parsons was filed 12 October 1729. Job Hulburd was born 22 May 1750 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Job married Dorcas Spencer on 11 November 1776 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Job died 11 January 1826 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Job was buried in West Cemetery in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Job and Dorcas (Spencer) Hulburd were parents of the following children: Achsa Hurlburt Anna Hurlburt Job Hurlburt Augustine Hurlburt Dorcas Hurlburt Timothy Hurlburt Chauncey Hurlburt (died in infancy) Chauncey Hurlburt Notes: This was another instance where a child died young and the next born child was given the same name, as was customary then. Augustine Hurlburt was born 07 September 1783 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Augustine married Dorothy Meacham on 10 April 1805 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Augustine died 29 May 1842 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Warren Moses Hurlburt (Hulbert as used in Montgomery County, Il) was born 1814 in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. Warren was first married to Cenith Tooley, after her death, he married Cenith's sister Laura Tooley. After Laura's death, Warren Moses Hulbert married Lizzie Wilson in Montgomery County, Il. After the death of Lizzie Hulbert, Warren Moses Hulbert married Martha Traylor in Montgomery County, Il, the daughter of Caleb Washington and Martha (?) Traylor. Warren Moses Hulbert died in 1906 in Nokomis, Il and is buried with his fourth wife Martha in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, Il. Warren Moses Hulbert had the following children by his four wives: Elvirah (Hulbert) Lohr (Cenith's daughter) Ebert Moses (E.M.) Hulbert (one time Editor and Publisher of the Free-Press Gazette and the Deutsch Amerikaner in Nokomis, Il and son of Laura Tooley) Harriet (Hulbert) Stanley (daughter of Lizzie Wilson) Ms. Jennie Hulbert (daughter of Lizzie Wilson) Edward Landrop Hulbert (son of one of the Tooley sisters) Warren Franklin Hulbert (son of Martha Traylor) Warren Franklin Hulbert was born 01 November 1876 in Nokomis, Il. On 05 December 1898 he married Lulu Luetta Gage, daughter of William Montgomery and Mary Melissa (Sides) Gage. Lulu was born 13 July 1880 in Nokomis, Il. Warren F. Hulbert died 20 August 1959 in Hillsboro, Il and Lulu (Gage) Hulbert died 11 May 1960 in Hillsboro, Il. Both are buried in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, Il. Warren and Lulu (Gage) Hulbert were the parents of the following children: Lloyd W. Hulbert Howard E. Hulbert Everett W. Hulbert Suavilla Isadora (Hulbert) Clayton Grace (Hulbert) Ponder Edna (Hulbert) Helm Ida Mae (Hulbert) Yordy Suavilla Isadora Hulbert was born 06 January 1900 in Nokomis, Il. Suavilla married Charles Leo Clayton on 08 June 1921 in Nokomis, Il, the son of Charles Henry and Martha Elizabeth (Bass) Clayton. Suavilla died from a massive coronary on 01 May 1970 in Oconee, Il. Charles Leo Clayton died in Montgomery County Nursing Home in Hillsboro, Il on 23 August 1987. Charles Leo and Suavilla Isadora (Hulbert) Clayton are parents of the following children: Paul Clayton (died in infancy) Dale Everett Clayton Charles Warren Clayton Carl Melvin Clayton Dale Clayton was born 01 August 1924 in Nokomis, Il. Dale married Lavonne Merle Armentrout on 01 March 1945 in Witt, Il, the daughter of John Thomas and Myrtle Alice (Eddington) Armentrout. Dale and Lavonne (Armentrout) Clayton are parents of the following children: Kenneth Melvin Clayton Merle Everett Clayton Olin Dale Clayton (my sweet husband) Anita Elaine (Clayton) Wahlsmith Yvonne Marie (Clayton) Hicks James Dean Clayton Lester Norman Clayton Gail Irene (Clayton) Kessler Janice Eileen (Clayton) Volentine Olin Dale Clayton was born 20 March 1951 in Hillsboro, Il. Olin was first married to Hazel Hedburg of Chicago, Il and were divorced in 1972 in Chicago, Il. Olin then married Barbara Hays, daughter of the late Dewey and Florence (Altevogt) Hays on 06 August 1976 in Witt, Il.
