1860 Illinois Census partial listing - Montgomery County, Illinois My great grandfather's family lived in Montgomery Co., Ill [F12NR5Wof 3rdDM], Cirard [?] Post Office. They are on pp. 253-254, enumerated on the [blur] day of July 1860 by Jesse J. Phillip. Line 40, p. 253: Aaron Lane 34 M Farm Tenant 1,000 400 NJ Sarah M Lane 23 F NJ Kate 7 F NJ Eliza [Lisle]T. 3 F NJ They came from Somerset Co., NJ, I believe, and later moved to Newton, Harvey Co., KS (near Wichita) where they were for the 1880 Census & later still to Seward Co., KS (in the SW corner of the state) where they appear in the 1900 census. John Spencer, the next to the youngest son, my grandfather moved around Kansas working as a school teacher, blacksmith, trolley conductor, & highway construction worker. He was a captain in the Civil War with an Illinois unit [the 14th or 114th ? I have it somewhere, but have misplaced that paper]. Another branch, the Nicolays, stopped in Pike, Co., IL during the 1800s from Bavaria, Germany, via New Orleans on their way to Osage County, KS. On my mother's side, the Goodwins stopped in Ludlow & Rankin, IL on their way from Hocking Co., Ohio & ,earlier, Amesbury, Massachusettes [where they had been since at least 1737] to Republic Co., KS. If I can help any other researchers of these lines inquiring in IL, please let me know.
