Probably in the Glasgow area,as he went to work in the coal mines at the age of nine. He came to America as a young man and settled in Illinois. He married Malinda Kimbro May 20, 1858 in Bond County. They became the parents of nine children. Robert enlisted to serve in the Civil War in Montgomery County August 7, 1861. CO. H, 9th IL. VOLS. He enlisted again February 5th,1865 in CO. A, U S 2nd VETERANS VOL. Robert recieved wounds in his right elbow, right ankle, and the right side of his head in the Battle of Cornith in Mississippi. Robert was a farmer in illinois. He moved his family to Bourbon County, Kansas after the war, but returned to illinois in the early 1870's.Robert died in1878 from the head wound he had received at the Battle of Cornith.
