Litchfield, Montgomery Co., IL Jesse M. Ash was born in Kentucky, April 10th, 1809, and died February 20th, 1874. He was converted at the age of sixteen, and united with the M. E. Church, and lived a consistent Christian. He was married to Miss Kimbrough, April 29th 1829, and removed to Illinois in 1831. His wife dying Dec. 13th, 1852, he was remarried Jan. 24th, 1855, to Mrs. E. H. Good (nee Esther Hannah Valentine), who survives him. Mr. Ash had for years been in poor health. Four weeks since, it was thought he would die. His children came to see him. But his work was not done. He expressed a desire to see the young men of the neighborhood converted to Christ, before he departed; he rose from his bed of sickness, in better health than he had for a year. He was permitted to see the conversion of forty-five persons, including three of his sons. He said it was the greatest work he had ever seen. He attended the meeting at Phillips' Chapel on Monday before his death and spoke with unusual dignity and feeling. He had seen his desire, and was satisfied. When he took his bed, he asserted he had nothing to do. He had for forty years, lived in a state of preparation for his death, and he departed in great peace. Funeral services by Rev. J. A.
