Memorial service for Randall Lionel Beasley, formerly of the Witt area, will be held Wednesday afternoon in the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon. The family suggests memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, American Heart Association or the Randall and Virginia Beasley Scholarship Endowment at Lake Land College. Mr. Beasley, of Mattoon, died at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 1998, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was 73 years old on July 15, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an engineer with Coles Moultrie Electric Cooperative from 1948 until his retirement in 1988. He was a founding manager of the Illinois Farm Electrification Council, member and past president of Illinois Electrical Inspectors, an incorporator of Clear Water Service Corporation, and an Illinois Class A water plant operator. He attended schools in Irving and Witt, graduating from Witt High School, attended Blackburn College and the University of Illinois, graduating from the U. of I. in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural engineering. He also worked for the U. of I. and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to pay his way through school. He was active in many organizations in the Mattoon area, including Masonic Lodge 206 A.F.& A.M., director of the United Way for 15 years, and a former member of the Charleston Mattoon Chamber of Commerce. He was a son of Arthur E. and Mildred Mitchell Beasley. When he was 2 1/2 years old, his mother died and his father, in 1932, married a young widow named Collins (widow of Welby G. Collins, nee Bessie Groves). She had four children, each only a few months younger than the Beasley children. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia G. Rackett, whom he married June 4, 1947, in East Marion, N.Y.; children, Beth Ann Watson of rural Mattoon, Sue Ellyn Meyer of Lerna, Nancy Jeanne Levin of Chesterfield, Mo.; step brothers, Raymond and Arthur Beasley of Owensville, Mo., Ray D. Collins of Edwardsville; sister, Allegretha Harrelson of Bunnlevel, N.C.; four grandchildren, one step grandchild and two great grandchildren.
