On January 23, 1840 in Hillsboro, she was married to Jacob Cress, Jr. and for more than sixty years she and her husband have lived on the farm where she died. Mrs. Cress was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are living. They are Alexander Absalom, John Melanchton, deceased; Jacob Daniel, a farmer in Dinuha, California; William Springer, who is living on the old homestead; Samuel Edward, a hardware merchant and banker of Sorento, Illinois; Benjamin Lewis, who is deputy United States mineral surveyor of Red Cliff, Colorado; Sophia Lucretia, who is the wife of Orville B. The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church of Hillsboro and she was a devoted self sacrificing Christian. She was an affectionate and dutiful wife and a loving, helpful mother. She will be missed not only by her children but by a large circle of friends who had learned to love 'Aunt Helena' as a mother. Her aged companion and the rest of her family have the sympathy of the whole community. The funeral services will be held at the residence with Rev. Ezra Keller officiating.
