Keel, a former prominent farmer of Honey Bend, but who has of late years resided at Hillsboro, died south of Hillsboro on Saturday of last week, January 23rd at the age of 74 years. The deceased was born in Illinois and was a son of Carter keel, a pioneer settler of Macoupin and Montgomery counties. The deceased grew to manhood in Macoupin county, near Gillespie and was married to Miss Mary White, who died soon after their marriage. One child was born to this union but followed her mother to the grave. Mr. Keel was married a second time taking a Missouri bride, who died ten years ago. Five children were born to this union, four of who survive namely: Richard and Earl of Hillsboro; Thomas of Missouri and Miss Mary of Gillespie. One child died in infancy. Mr Keel buried his second wife at Honey Bend, where he at one time owned eighty acres of excellent land which he lost through placing too much confidence in those he thought were his friends. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist church at Honey Bend where he was held in high esteem by all those who knew him. His body was taken to Honey Bend for burial Monday morning. Besides his children, the deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jane Duncan of Gillespie, and Mrs. C. McDaniels of St. Louis and by a brother Samuel Keel of Ragland, Ky. This was my great grandfather.
