George Mindrup obituary - Montgomery County, Illinois Death of Geo. Mindrup George Mindrup died at his home northwest of the city last Thursday, April 11, 1918 at an age of over 81 years. Mr. Mindrup was born in Germany. When about twenty years of age he was ambitious to find a place offering better opportunities and decided to join the great throng of sturdy farmers then coming to America. After spending a few years in this country, Mr. Mindrup and Miss Lena Husman were married. Following their marriage they resided in the vicinity of Mt. Olive for a few years. Mr. and Mrs. Mindrup became the parents of eleven children. The mother died thirteen months ago. The following named children survive: Hiram, Richard, Henry and Etta, all of this vicinity; Lizzie, wife of Chas. Flood of near St. Elmo; Anna, wife of Herman Hussman of Canastoka, S.D.; Fredericka, wife of John Drew of Prussia, S.D.; and Lena, wife of John Kluthe of Dieterich. He is also survived by one brother, Hiram, of this city. Before the war he had one brother, Herman, living in Germany. It is not known whether Herman is still living or not. Mr. Mindrup came to this vicinity about fifty years ago. He was one of the oldest residents of the community. He came here when Central Illinois was an entirely undeveloped country. He helped to conquer the virgin soil and make it blossom forth as a rose. He was an industrious and capable agriculturalist whose personality has been indelibly stamped on the advancement of farming in the vicinity where he spent so many years at this life work. He was a member of the German Lutheran church and a good man whose memory will be cherished by relatives and friends alike. Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul’s German Lutheran church northwest of the city, Monday, April 15 by Revs. O. Henkle and Theo. Herrmann and burial was in the German Lutheran cemetery.
