Obituary of Mrs. M. J. (Briscoe) Gaffney Litchfield Daily Herald 24 Jan 1928 ------------------------------ Mrs. M. J. Gaffney, Near Centenarian Dies Last Night ------------------------------ Mrs. Mary Jane Gaffney, aged 92 years, one month and 15 days, a resident of this city for the past thirty-four years, died at 7:05 o'clock last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nancy Wandling. Mrs. Gaffney had been an invalid for the past several years. Mary Jane Briscoe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Briscoe, was born near Greencastle, Ind., December 8, 1835. At the age of sixteen years she united with the Pleasant Ridge Baptist church, later transferring her membership to Troy, Illinois where it has remained since. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Wandling, one adopted daughter, Mrs. Ed Harris of Fon du Lac, Michigan, one brother, Aaron Briscoe of Ogallaha, Neb, nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. One son died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. R. J. Anderson, officiating. Interment will be in the Crabtree Cemetary.
