Nelson, who was 98 years old last Sept 1., died Thursday at Hillsboro Hospital after an illness. He had been hospitalized at St. Joseph hospital at Alton and a week ago was moved to Hillsboro Southtown nursing home before transfer to Hillsboro hospital the day of his death. The remains were at Allen-Miller funeral home in Fillmore where services were conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev Newton Grigg, retired Baptist minister. Burial was in Glendale cemetery. A retired farmer, Mr. Nelson had spent most of his lifetime in the Fillmore area. He was born near Fillmore Sept. 1, 1876, a son of Robert and Camille (Wright) Nelson. He and Margaret Sheehan were married in 1911 and they became parents of three children. Mrs. Nelson died in 1932. For years Mr. Nelson farmed southwest of Chapman until retiring and moving to Fillmore. He maintained his own home and was active as a gardener until about two years ago when infirmities limited his efforts. Surviving him are sons Howard of Fillmore and Clifford of Wheeling and a daughter, Genevieve, widow of Ralph Huber of Alton, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister May Miller of Rest Haven at Irving. Brothers Clark, Clarence, Scott, and Oscar have died. Additional Comments: Tim Casey is a researcher and descendant of Elijah Whitten and Charity Duckett and John Casey and Drucilla Hill. Emery H.
