He had been a patient in the hospital for the past four weeks, since he had been stricken with paralysis at this home three and a half miles east of this city. His condition, gradually grew more critical until the end came Sunday night. Funeral services will be held at the country residence on the Filllmore road Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Ezra Keller, pastor of the Hillsboro Lutheran church will conduct the services and interment will be made at Oak Grove cemetery in this city. Hugo Wolters was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 24, 1853, being a son of the late Louis and Elizabeth [Heitman] Wolters. At the age of about four years he moved with his parents to Carlinville where the father followed his trade of cabinet-maker and conducted a general merchandising establishment. In 1864, Louis Wolters moved his family to the farm about three and a half miles east of Hillsboro where the children were reared. This is the farm on which Hugo Wolters has resided practically ever since with the exception of a few years on a farm near Witt. Over a period of many years, Louis Wolters and his sons made a specialty of raising sheep and they won a wide reputation for the fine quality of sheep and wool produced on his farm. *** The marriage of Hugo Wolters to Sophia Hillman occurred in 1878 and she died about 1885. Four children were born to this union, two dying in infancy, and two who survive, Mrs. Lucy May, widow of Edward May of this city and Elizabeth, wife of John Marketta of Joliet. On November 28, 1888, in Carlinville, Illinois he united in marriage to Ida Caroline Haake, who passed away at their country home east of Hillsboro on February 12, 1934. To this union were born four children: Frederick William, who died about four years ago; Ruby Rose and Ida Belle who died in infancy and Pearl, wife of William Lehman, who with her family lives near the Wolters homestead. Mr. Wolters also leaves two brothers, Thomas Wolters and Edward Wolters, both of the Nokomis community. There are seven grandchildren: Mrs. Louis Joshu of East St. Louis; Mrs. Thomas Godfrey of Litchfield; Mrs. Bernard Vercelloti and Mrs. Rudolph Gibson, both of Joliet and Franklin Hugo, Lucille Caroline and Walter William, children of the Lehmans. There are also four great grandchildren. Mr. Wolters joined the Presbyterian church at Irving during his youth. He belonged to few organizations but took a deep interest in the affairs of the community. He was interested in agricultural pursuits and belonged to the Farm Bureau. Mr. Wolters was a hard worker, was thrifty and encouraged others to put forth their efforts to build up the community where they lived. He had a wide circle of friends in this cmmunity.
