The history of this family is found in "Past and Present of Montgomery County, Il" by Jacob Traylor and a copy is in Hillsboro Library in Hillsboro, Il. Guilford Bass served in the War of 1812 and a copy of his muster record is on file in the Evans Library in Vandalia, Il.Guilford Bass is supposed to be buried on the old Bass homestead in Fayette County, Il. If anyone knows the location of his burial, we would love to know this. His wife is buried in Tennessee Cemetery in Oconee, Il and her stone is in marvelous shape. Last Will and Testament of Guilford Bass I Guilford Bass of the County of Fayette in the State of Illinois do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, First it is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid. Second I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary C. Bass, the plantation on which we now reside situate in Fayette County, Illinois, containing forty acres during her natural life or a widow and all the live stock, horses, cattle, sheep, hogs and by me now owned and kept thereon all the household furniture and grain and other items not particularly named and otherwise despared as during her natural life as afore said. She however first disposing of a sufficiency, wereas to pay my just debts as aforesaid and that at the death of my said wife all the property hereby devised or bequeathed to her as aforesaid or so much thereas as may then remain unexpended to my nine sons and their heirs and assigns forever and lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Mary C. Bass to the execution of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratified and confirmed this and no other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereas I have hereunto set my hand and seal this July the tenth one thousand eight hundred and forty six.
