Mar. 11, 1880 "For a week past the many friends of Rev. J.C. Hamilton have been apprised of the fact that he was fast failing and they were consequently not greatly surprised when the news was circulated in the city yesterday that he had breathed his last. Mr. Hamilton was among the early settlers of Illinois, having come to the State in 1834. He was born June 16th, 1797, at Cynthiana, Harrison county, Kentucky, and was consequently in his 83rd year. Mr. Hamilton was a man of stirring enterprise, an outspoken, fearless denouncer of wrong, and a minister much esteemed by all who ever sat under his ministry. He leaves a large family to mourn his loss, and many of our citizens will feel the loss of one who was a good citizen and an upright man. The funeral will take place at Brooklyn M.E. church tomorrow, Friday, at 10 o'clock a.m. Rev. Peter Akers will officiate, assisted by Dr. Harsha." Additional Comments: Buried at Jacksonville Cemetery.
