Lewnes Found Dead At half past 2 o’clock, __________afternoon Samuel Lewis, a veteran was found dead in the water closet at the home of his son, Mr. Wm. H. McEvers in South Sandy. The body was once taken in with help of neighbors and Coroner Hocking notified of the sudden death. He immediately impaneled a jury and held an inquest. The witnesses who gave testimony were Wm. E. McEvers, John Barker, Cupid Moseley, and J.F. Imhoff. It appears from the evidence given that the deceased was living in McEvers’ house, and was 89 years old this month, and partially blind. He had apparently been in as good health as usual, complaining of nothing but a slight pain in the side. He was led to the water closet by his stepdaughter, Mrs. McEvers, as was customary with her on account of his blindness, and found 20 minutes later with life extinct, The deceased was a pensioner of the war of 1812-a venerable veteran. The jury released the following verdict: We the undersigned jurors _________to inquire the death of Samuel Lewis__________do find that_______________his death from an Unknown cause but suppose it to have been old age.
