DEPPE - WEBSTER SECRET MARRIAGE

The society element of this little city was thrown into quite a little 
excitment last Thursday evening when it became known that Louis Deppe and 
Miss Nellie Webster were quietly married in St. Louis.

They went ot St. Louis last August to see the world's fair and Miss Webster 
to visit some friends, and on their arrival in the city they decided to 
procure a wedding license, go to the office of Justice Robert J. Carroll and 
have him perform the sedding ceremony in the presence of the necessary 
witnesses only, and they would keep the fact a secret until the holidays or 
longer.  After the wedding Mr. Deppe returned to the home of his parents, Mr. 
and Mrs. H.L. Deppe, east of this city and Miss Webster remained for a longer 
visit with friends, then she returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and 
Mrs. Daniel Webster of this city.

Right well did the couple succeed in keeping their marriage a secret, for not 
even their parents had the slightest suspicion that their son and daughter, 
respectively, were married until last Thursday evening when their secret was 
disclosed.  There is not only a considerable tinge of romance connected with 
the affair but it proves conclusively that there is little or no truth in the 
old saying that "women cannot keep a secret".

For the present Mr. and Mrs. Deppe are "at home" to their friends at the 
parental homestead of the latter, but about March 1st they will begin 
housekeeping on a farm near Chambersburg.

The NEWS begs to join the host of friends of this worthy and happy couple in 
hearty congratulations and good wishes.
