He drove a staple in the beam and attached to it a rope, which he took from around a bale of hay, and thus hung himself. He was formerly a section man on the Peoria, Pekin & Jacksonville Railroad, and had saved $800, which he had deposited in the Pulsifer Bank, that broke two years ago. Soon afterwards he became insane, and was sent to the hospital at Jacksonville. About a month ago he was believed to be cured, and was sent home again, but his suicide shows that his mind was still deranged. The bank failure is supposed to have been the cause of his insanity, and though it occurred two years ago, the assets have provided only one dividend of 10 per cent thus far; the liabilities were nearly $1,000,000.
