Died at his residence, Peoria County, Ill., of typhoid pneumonia, Mr. Berridge
Lucas, in his 63d year. Mr. L. was born July 2d, 1800, in Washington County, Pa.,
where he received religious training by pious parents, who were worthy members of
West Alexander church. He was married to Miss Jane Lee on the 2d of April, 1822. He
removed to Ohio in the winter of 1823, and returned to Pennsylvania in 1828; four
years after, he made a public profession of his faith in Christ, by uniting with the
church of West Alexander in the thirty-second year of his age... He was elected
Ruling Elder of West Union church in 1837, where, for nine years, he magnified the
office with great ability. He removed to Brimfield, Ill., in 1856, where he was
immediately elected to that office, which he held till his death, December 16th,
1863, living a life devoted to Christ and his cause, and dying in the triumphs of a
living faith, and trusting entirely in the complete righteousness of Christ. His
work being done, God took him. He was father of a son and daughter, who both
embraced Christ in youth. The only son is a surgeon of the 3d Division, 15th Army
Corps. He was a loving, kind and devoted husband; an affectionate and indulgent
father; an active and exemplary Christian; and a worthy citizen, beloved by all who
knew him. He left a lonely wife, two children, eleven grandchildren (three of whim
are pious, and a large circle of relatives and acquaintances, to mourn his loss, and
embalm his memory with their tears.
