Logan Crossed Great Divide, Sunday _____________ Deceased was highly respected and was dearly loved by the children in this community. _____________ Martha Elizabeth Norton Lamer was born December 25th, 1860, near Garnet, Kansas, and died at her home, 129 East Ozburn street, Pinckneyville, Ill., Sunday, June 5, 1927, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 10 days. In 1879, she was united in marriage to Willis Lamer, of Cobden, Illinois. to this union were born three children: Mrs. Nellie Johnson, of Herrin; Mrs. May Kruz, of St. Louis; and one son dying in infancy. On November 18, 1884, her husband passed to his eternal reward. On December 23, 1897, she was again united in marriage to A.J. Logan, of Cobden, Illinois, moving to Pinckneyville about 22 years ago, making their home all those years where she died. While very young in life she united with the Baptist Church in Cobden, Illinois. Later, in 1906, she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville, and to her very last moments of life was one of the most faithful Christians in our city. Grandma Logan, as she was commonly called was a loving wife and mother. All her neighbors loved her and all little children of the community knew her as one of the dearest grandmas that ever lived. She was a faithful Sunday school pupil and will be missed by her church and pastor. Truly, she was one of God's best. Many times when even in the midst of pain she was at her post. The Woman's Missionary Society will miss her, she was a faithful member of Circle No. 1, and plans were already made to meet in her home June 20, to take the study course in Missions. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Johnson of Herrin; and Mrs. May Kruz of St. Louis; one step-son, James of this city. Special mention should be made of her grandchild, Ruby, who has been with her grandmother since she was three years of age. One brother, Joseph Norton of Carterville; one half-sister Mrs. May Ellis of Pomona, five half brothers, Albert Johnson of Pomona; Columbus Johnson of Pomona, Andrew Johnson of Pomona and Irwin and Charley Johnson of Whittier, Calif. Eleven grand children and two great grand-children, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 10th, at the Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. E.H. Zipprodt, assisted by Rev. I.E. Lee, of Herrin.
