JAMES PAGE Mrs. James Page, one of Du Quoin's pioneer citizens,died at her late home in this city at 9:45 o'clock last Thursday evening, after a severe illness and great suffering. Jane Merrill was born in Sussex county, England, in the year 1825, and was therefore 78 years,3months and 27 days at the time of her demise. In the year 1828 she came with her parents from England to this country, the family settling in New York She was married to Mr. Page in 1847. The two surviving daughters of this union are Mrs. Benjamin Skinner, now a resident of Montana, and Mrs. Root Skinner, of Old Town, who constantly ministered at the bedside of her mother during her last illness. Other relatives remaining are three sisters, Mrs. Geo. McKinney, of our city; Mrs. Sarah Leach, of Manhatten, Montana; and Mrs. Fannie Mason, of Michigan; also two brothers, Nelson and George Merrill, both residents of New York. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Page has resided in our city The funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church, at 2 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, the 23rd inst., conducted by her pastor, Rev. T. E. Spilman. The interment occurred at Old Du Quoin. The casket was not opened at the church, but the remains were viewed at the cemetery. The sympathy and condolence of many friends is extended to the relatives who remain. For them she has left a noble example a gentle, patient, uncomplaining life.
