The Decatur [IL] Daily Review March 31, 1887
Monticello, Ill., March 31.-Eric Long, who was confined in jail at the last 
term of the court on a short sentence, was shot dead Tuesday while attempting 
to escape by George Crigamire, the jailer, who is about eighteen years old.
