Long, aged 88 years, 4 months, and 19 days. The funeral was held at the M.E. church, Sunday at one o'clock, Rev. S.W. Boggs officiating. The internment was in the village cemetery. Mr. Frydenger was born in Baden, Germany in 1815 and came to the United States with his parents in 1826. He attended school in his native land and while a boy was confirmed in the Lutheran church and remained a member of that body until his death. On coming to this country his family first settled at Chambersburg, Pa. They after removed to Brunswick, Mo. While living there the scourge of cholera passed over the country in 1841 and his father, mother and a sister succumbed to the dread disease. He lost a brother by drowning while waiting for the ship which was to carry them to this country. In 1850, the year after the breakout of the gold fever, he joined the crowds making their way over the western country and went to California to seek his fortune in the gold mines. He remained there for several years and was fairly successful. He decided to return to this part of the country and set sail at San Francisco and sailed around Cape Horn to New York. From there he came west to Iowa, and then to Springfield, Ill. From there he went with his brother Jacob to Champaign county in 1863, and in 1865 they came to Cerro Gordo. From that time he made his home with his brother until 1895. After that he lived with families of different relatives and for the past few years he has resided with Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Long. Of a large family his brother Jacob is the only surviving member. Sandra Wagner sjwag@ameritech.net
