Obituary of Mrs. Matilda Stanley SAXBERY, Pike County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Barbara Freeman Name of Deceased: Mrs. Matilda Stanley SAXBERY Name of Newspaper: Barry Adage Date of Newspaper: 4 January 1879, Page 4, Column 1 Mrs. Matilda (Stanley) Saxbery 1807-1878 Barry Adage, January 4, 1879, Page 4, Column 1 - Mrs. Matilda Saxbery, aged 71 years, an old resident, (58 years) in Pleasant Vale Township, and the first woman married in the county under the license law in 1827, died the 23rd of Dec. Her funeral was preached by the Rev. Crews, a very large concourse of people attending. The good old lady attended the Old Settlers' Meeting in October and shook hands with about 500 persons. She was the mother of 13 children and has out-lived all of them but four.
