Pope County Illinois Territory We the Commissioners appointed by the Legislature of Illinois Territory to examine and lay off the place where the permanent Seat of Justice for said County shall be fixed, having met according the Act of Assembly on the first day of April 1816 and being first duly sworn, have agreed, that the most elegible and convenient place is in the lane of Thomas Ferguson as now disignated by Stakes at nineteen poles square from each other, the lane being on the south boundary of said square. N.B. The Name of this Town is called Sarahsville Jas. N.
