            "Article of Agreement made and concluded upon this 7th day of July
A.D. 1851 by and between Jesse M. Chappell of Pope County in the state of
Illinois of the first part and the undersigned inhabitants of the county and
state afforsaid of the secon party witnesseth J M Chappell party of the first
agreeth to teach an English school at Sugar Creek Meet in Township 13 S Range 5
E for the term of five months of 12 weeks to the quarter and the said J M
Chappell agrees to teach reading writing and arithmetic to compound addition and
to teach five days in each week and to give due and faithful attention to his
said school and all time lost by him from the duties of his school is to be made
up at the end of the term or to be deducted out at the option of the teacher and
we the undersigned on our part agreeth to pay the said J M Chappell two dollars
& 50 cents per quarter for each scholar in Corn Wheat or Pork at the market
price which is to be delivered at my house against the 25th day of December next
& the said J M Chappell agrees to take the school fund as far as it will pay the
same."
