Obituary of Rev. Samuel Parmley - Pope County, Illinois Published in GOLCONDA HERALD ENTERPRISE on July 9, 1925 OBITUARY: Rev. Samuel Parmley was born Aug. 16th, 1852 and departed this life June 30, 1925, aged 72 years 10 months and 14 days. He was the son of Samuel and Malinda Parmley, of Rock, Pope county, Ill. At the age of 22 years he professed faith in Christ and united with the General Baptist church at Olive, later he joined the Zion Hill Baptist church, where he remained a devoed(sic) Christian until the Lord called him home. On September 29, 1901, he was ordained to the work of the ministry by Zion Hill church. He was united in marriage tto(sic) Malinda Griffin Feb. 6, 1873. To this union were born 4 children; Martha M. Feezor, Laura Newton, one child who died in infancy and Anna Faulkner. Anna and his faithful wife survive. Brother Parmley leaves 4 brothers and 1 sister, Sula McAbee, of DuQuoin, Green Parmley, of Metropolis, Lewis Parmley, of Eddyville, Otto Parmley, of McCormick and Elsberry Parmley, of Ramor, Tenn. 3 brothers preceded him in death, namely: James A., Thomas J., and John R. For 52 years he and his beloved companion shared each other's joys and sorrows, although clouds sometimes gathered o'er the pathway of life, together they worked, watched and prayed and the clouds parted and through the rift in the clouds they ever beheld the shining of the eternal stars of human hope. He leaves to mourn hiss loss a companion, 1 daughter, 13 grand-children and 4 great grand-children, with a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Geo.
