Brother I want you to Collect my Brother John's 7 Estate or have it Don and hild my part in your hand or possession untill I can get it as I think I will Come and see you this fall if nothing happens more than I Know of but I would reather you would Come and see me and if you Do fech my part with you. altho this is a A pore part of Mississippi there is publick land yet that will bring from 1000 to 15000 lbs tied Cottin to the acer and frome 25 to 50 bushals of Corn. we have made A good Crop of wheet this year. Crops generly are promising to fair as I have heard frome. write to me as soon as Convenient and Direct as before Mississippi Winston County Ferrins [Fearns] Springs P.O. as it is the nearest office to me. we all send our best Respects to you and your Family. Samuel Leard III - b. before 1797 Abbeville, SC. - son of Samuel Leard, Jr. - b. 1764 N. Ireland and Elizabeth b. c1765 Wales. 2. Andrew Leard - b. before 1797 Abbeville, SC. - d. 1822 Abbeville. He was married to Jane Marsh in 1814. Their son, the Reverend 3. Samuel Leard - b. 1815 - d. 1896 - was a Methodist minister. After Andrew Leard's death, his wife Jane (Marsh) Leard married Isaac Dansby in Abbeville, SC. 4. Susan Magdalin Margaret Leard - b. ? - d. 20 Aug 1845 Wadesboro, Anson Co., N. C. - Rev. Leard married his 2nd wife Sarah Anna Leard - b. ? - d. 20 May 1857 Beaufort, S.C. - his 3rd marriage was 18 Feb 1864 to Margarette A. Clark - b.? - d. 26 Mar 1912 Raleigh, N. C. - from this 3rd marriage was born 13 Aug 1867 Lina Leard - d. 18 Dec 1943. Lina Leard married 21 Apr 1886 George Herman Huggins - b. 1862 - d. 1918 in Manning, S.C. 5. William Leard - b. 1820 GA. - on 1850 Ala. census - Sumter Co., Ala - as blacksmith. 6. Samuel Leard, Jr. - b. 22 July 1841 Georgeton, S.C. - d. 30 Oct 1862/67 Beaufort, S.C. This Samuel Leard is the eldest son of the Methodist minister, Rev. Samuel Leard and his wife Susan Magdalin Margaret Leard. Susan M. M. Leard d. 2/20 Aug 1845 in Wadesboro, N.C. Samuel Leard, Jr. was a writer for the Southern Christian Advocate of Charleston, S.C. [* I doubt that Wallace Leard ascribed the right cousin Samuel since he was born in 1841 and the letter was written in 1846 when Samuel would have been 5 years old. I believe he is either still refering to Samuel the preacher or Samuel IV s/o Samuel III and Margaret. *] 7. John Leard - b. before 1797 Abbeville, S.C. - d. 1844 Randolph Co., Ill. 8. Alexander L. b. 1792 S.C. d. 1851 Miss. and Jane E. (Rainey) Leard b. 1796 GA, d. Ft. Smith, Ark. 26 Sept 1882 buried Leard Cemetery - Ft. Smith, Ark. ============================================================ (1849) March 30..49 Maringo Co., Ala. Dear Cosen 1 I take this opertunity of riting you a few lines. I am glas to say to you in my letter that I am in the engoyment of good helth. I hope this few lines may find you and fammley and all of my relasions engoying the same blessing. We have hade a very farred spring, hear a good menney of the planters planted thar crops in February, we had 2 ligh & frosts the 26 and 27 of this month which killd all the cotten that was up. I am overseeing for Kittie McFadden I gitt 3.25 dollars this year. The relasions is all well at presentt as far as I know. I rote to you as soon as I got hom last fall accordin to promis and I have not got an anser yet to my letter and I had come to the conclusion that it had mis plast and you had not got it and I thought I would rite to you agane. Cosen Willie 1 as soon as you git this I wish you to rite to me and rite respecting the billit that is dew me that I have not heard ennathing thing positive from Cosen Samuel 2 yet but i think I will soon and when I do I will rite to you When you get the part that is dew me get it in New Orleans or Mobill Money and cut the bills in too and male half at a time. if you will ples attend to this as soon as posabel for me and pay yourself for your trubel and you will oblige your obedient friend Give my love and respects to Unckel Samuel 3 Mr. Vansant 4 and all my relasions Nothing more at presant but remans your obedient friend. Ireland - d. 1807 Randolph Co., Ill (place of death not proven). I think she is the daughter of John Leard b. Abbeville, S.C. before 1797 - d. 1844/45 Randolph Co., Ill. or Samuel Leard III b. Abbeville, S.C. before 1797 - d. Margaret Leard was first married 22 May 1838, Randolph Co., Ill to Corydon Cochran d. before 1847. 2. Demopolis Dear Cosen 1 I received your fond letter to day which gave me grate saddisfaction to hear from you all and to hear that your ar all in the engoyment of resoneble helth. I feel thankful the giver of all good that I can say to you as I did a short time ago in a letter that I rotn to you that I am in the engoyment of good helth. The resen I rote to you without an anser was that I thought you had never received a letter from me. Your letter was malde the 23 of March and came to handle the 10 of April which was very quick. I was sorre to hear of Unkel Samma 2 being in such bad helth. Respecting the court order that I have an intrust in I am hardley abel to say what to dood for the best tho I say to you to sell my intrust in it for two thirds of what it calls for if you cante doo no better with it accordin to the calculasion we made 2 two thirds will be thirty doolars and 35 cts without intrust. You stated in your letter that you had Seventeen Dollars in our hands of the noate ples stur them up and git the balance on Polick and Banister as soon as you can. The amount of that is $47.00 with-out intrust. Git it and founrd it as quick as the case will admit if you ples. Direct your letters to Demoplis Ala Maringo Co. If you cante get 2 thirds of hte worth of the order take a little less. Give my love love to all the relasion and to Van. 3 I would be glad to see him Nothing more at present but remans you Cuson and friend until deth. John R. Leard is my legally authorized agent to receive the money that he wrote to you concerning (in the foregoing letter so you can pay it to him and his receipt to you will be good against me for the same.
