Obituary of Doras Merle Jones Heaton, Richland County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Doras Merle Jones Heaton   3 March 1916, Oblong (IL) Oracle Mrs. Allen Heaton died at her home in Chico, Cal., Wednesday of last week and the remains were brought to Oblong for burial, arriving Wednesday morning.  The funeral service was held at the East Christian church in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. Rhein, of the Circuit M. E. church.  The burial was in charge of the local Camp of Royal Neighbors.   Mrs. Heaton was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Jones, of near Pierceburg.  She has a host of friends in that vicinity who are sorry to learn of her early demise.   Following is the obituary:   Doras Merle Jones was born in Richaland county, Ill., September 26, 1886; departed this life February 23, 1916, aged 29 years, 4 months and 28 days.  Soon after her birth, with her parents, she moved to Crawford county, Ill., where she resided till she was 22 years old, when she was united in marriage to Allen H. Heaton of Oblong.  Soon after their marriage, they moved to Chico, Cal., where they resided at the time of her death.  She was a kind and loving mother, and was sick for several weeks before death, but bore her sickness and pains with much patience.  She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Christian church and lived a devoted Christian life until she was called to the home beyond.   She was an active Sunday school worker and will be greatly missed in the work.  She was also a member of Live Oak Camp No. 3627, Royal Neighbors of America of Chico.  She leaves a husband, Allen Heaton, one daughter, Lavena, father, mother, 3 sisters, Mrs. Carrie Coulter, of Willard Station, Mrs. Edna Sanford of Terre Haute, Ind., Mrs. Nora Graham of West Liberty, and 4 brothers, Aden, of Oblong, Alvah, of Villa Grove, Hampton, of Jamaica and Elias who resides with his parents.   When our toils in life are ended, And our earthly work is done. We will go across the river At the setting of the sun. And our loved ones we must leave When we're called to go away.
