Obituary of Henderson BAKER, Richland County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Mike Dean From the Olney Daily Mail April 11,1921: Henderson Baker, oldest man in Richland County, died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs Philip Schultz, at 211 West Butler Street. Mr. Baker celebrated his hundredth birthday September 11, 1920. The funeral will be held at the Schultz home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. The burial will be at Haven Hill. Mr. Baker was born in Kentucky September 11,1820. Bedfast for the past five years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Philip Schultz, he nevertheless was able to eat three good meals a day. His mind was as clear as a bell and his good humor remained. A family gathering celebrated the 100th birthday of Mr. Baker last September. Mr. Baker was born in Kentucky and when 12 years old his family, where they remained a year.In 1833, the year the Indian population left the state almost in a body, the family came to Illinois. Mr. Baker was married first to Miss Hurne, by whom he had one child, now deceased. Several years after the death of his first wife, Mr. Baker married Miss Emma Capper. Nine children were born, five of whom are living. Mr Baker was married the third time to Miss Nance Horrall, the only child of this union dying last October. For several years he had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Schultz. Mr. Baker recalled incidents of early days and of his exploits in deer hunting.
