Turnipseed From Robinson (IL) Daily News, Monday, 12 February 1962 Ovid Turnipseed Succumbs From Crash Injuries Ovid P. Turnipseed, 73, retired farmer and World War I veteran, of Rt. 2, Oblong, died at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney from injuries which included severe head lacerations, sustained in a one-vehicle accident Jan. 28. Mrs. Turnipseed is reported in fair condition at the same hospital where she has been since the wreck in which she received a broken hip and chest injuries. The accident occured Jan. 31 on the blacktop road five miles north of Oblong when Mr. Turnipseed missed the turn and went across a five-foot ditch and through a wire fence into a field where his pickup truck stopped, mired down, without turning over. Also riding in the truck were their daughter, Mrs. Ruth Watkins and their 5 year old granddaughter, from Saginaw, Mich., who were visiting them. Mrs. Watkins suffered a broken nose and a deep cut on her face and the little girl escaped with bruises. Both were treated and released from the Olney hospital the day of the accident. Survivors besides his wife Della and daughter, Mrs. Watkins, are one son, Berl, of Oblong; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Marshall funeral chapel in Oblong with interment to follow in the White Oak Cemetery where the Oblong Legion Post 219 will conduct graveside services. Willow Hill Lodge no. 489 A. F.; A. M. will conduct memorial services at 7;30 o'clock this evening in the chapel.
