OLD RAPIDS CITY CEMETERY, Rapids City, Hampton Twp, Rock Island Co., IL Submitted for use in the USGenWeb Archives December 20, 2000 by Paul Pruden < ppruden@aol.com > ************************************************ Copyright. The cemetery may have been called "Forrester Cemetery", although proof of the name has been elusive. The cemetery has long been abandoned, all but two or three stones are down and broken, many in several parts. Ten or more very small parts with only one or two numbers or letters were impossible to piece together. Conditions of the stones and land make it impossible to be sure all stones were read. Read on 19 September 1975 by William Ziegler and daughter Joyce Cornelius. *********************************************************************** BANGSTON, Charles Franklin died Mar. 27, 1875, aged 2 yrs, 4ms, Alice died Mar. 18, 1875 aged 1mo, children of L. & L. E.S.--W.H.O. One stone intact but not readable. One stone so crumbly, we were unable to turn it over to read (The transcriptionist William Ziegler remembers when part of the hillside was bulldozed away to make room for the newer Christian Church. Others feel some graves were moved to the newer Catholic Cemetery at this time---or lost).
