David Stoddard, the murderer, was hung in Rock Island, on Friday last at 2 o'clock, P. M. Affecting and appropriate addresses and prayers were made. Stoddard spoke at some length, acknowledging the murder of his wife, admonishing all those present to beware of the wrath to come, and avowing that liquor was the cause of the horrible deed and its consequences. An immense concourse of people, numbering upwards of 8,000, assembled to witness the awful spectacle. About half past two the drop fell. He hung about twenty-five minutes, when he was taken down lifeless.
