VERDA J. GOETHALS
The Daily Dispatch Newspaper, microfilm copy, Moline Public Library, Moline, 
Rock Island County, Illinois, USA, Thursday, 30 October 1986, Page 30; Obtained: 
09 May 2012.
    Verda J. Goethals, 67, of 2202  37th St., Moline, died today at Lutheran 
Hospital after a long illness.  Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at DeRoo 
Funeral Home, Moline, and 2 p.m. at her church, Sacred Heart, Moline.  Burial 
will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline.  Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 
p.m. Friday.  A liturgy will be recited at 6:30.  The former Verda J. Betcher 
was born in Geneseo Oct. 13, 1919.  She married Emiel DeKezel.  He died in 1943.  
She married LaVerne Severns in 1945 in Rock Island.  He died Oct. 17, 1953.  She 
married Robert C. Goethals Sept. 18, 1954, in Rock Island.  She was past 
president of the Heritage Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.  
She worked at Josephson's Jewelry, retiring in 1973 after 15 years.  She worked 
at Lutheran Hospital for 13 years as a housekeeper, retiring in 1984 due to ill 
health.  Survivors include the widower; daughters Joyce Sunderland, East Moline, 
and Joanne Rice, Moline; sons David Severns, Moline, and Robert M. Goethals, 
Rock Island; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her mother Grace 
Betcher, Moline, and a brother, Arnold, Annawan."  [Transcribed 09 May 2012,
