Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Orion, with celebrant the Rev. Richard Bresnahan officiating. Private family prayers will precede the service at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery, Orion, with military honors conducted by Orion VFW Post 143 and Orion American Legion Post 255. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, with a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. for his family and friends. Memorials may be made to Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Society. Gerald was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Moline, son of Horace and Alice Griffin Brown. He married Elaine DeBlieck May 25, 1946, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, East Moline. Gerald served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the Naval Reserves between the two conflicts. Gerald began his career at International Harvester, East Moline, as an assembler and product tester, where he was heavily involved in the building and testing of the axial flow combine. He retired in 1981 after 30 years. He also worked at Herman Nelson and Case. Gerald was owner and operator of Brownie's Upholstery Shop, East Moline. He was a life member of Orion VFW and East Moline Amvets, where he served in the honor guard for the Drum and Bugle Corps. Gerald was also a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. Gerald enjoyed time spent with his family. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed fishing, golf and his rose garden. Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Elaine Brown, Auburndale, Fla.; daughters, Nancy (Jim) Hamerlinck, Coal Valley, Cindy (Randy) Wage, Rock Island, and Marcia (Rex) Fouts, Alvin, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and brother, Charles (Betty) Brown, Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents; two great-granddaughters; a half-brother, Stanley; and a half-sister Evelyn.
