Mrs. Gregory Brown, aged 95, one of the oldest residents of Rock Island County, died yesterday at her home in Zuma township, on the farm where she and her husband settled 77 years ago. Death was due to old age. She is survived by four generations. Mrs. Brown was born in Verona, N.Y. Aug 20, 1830, her maiden name being Antoinette Brewster. She was a daughter of Justin and Sarah Brewster. Soon after her marriage to Gregory Brown, Aug 15, 1849, they came to Rock Island county, settling on the Zuma township farm, near Rock river. They bought part of their farm from the government. Mr. Brown died in 1899. Two sons survive, John of Moline and W. S. of Geneseo; five daughters, Clara and Nettie at home, Mrs. Julia Brewster of Port Byron, Mrs. Sarah Osborne of Rock Island, and Mrs. Lucinda Brooks of Erie, Ill., also 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Monday morning at the home, Rev. John H. Roger of the Congregational church of Port Byron officiating. Burial will be in the Wetherhead cemetery, near Barstow.
