Curry Orion – Alvin J. Curry, 79, a well-known retired farmer who lived most of his life in Bowling Township, south of Milan, died at 5:30 this morning at his home, 802 13th St., Orion. He had been in failing health for some time. Services will be at 11 Friday morning at the Mary, Our Lady of Peace, Roman Catholic Church, Orion, with the Rev. C. J. Hollerich, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Western Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. tomorrow at the Kirk & Huggins Funeral Home, Orion, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Crippled Children’s Fund. Mr. Curry was widely known throughout much of Rock island, Mercer and Henry Counties as a farmer and stockman. In his earlier years he established a reputation as a breaker and trainer of horses and mules. Mr. Curry was born July 12, 1900 in Bowling Township, a son of James and Amanda Young Curry. He was reared and received his education in Taylor Ridge and attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport. He moved to Orion from Milan last June. He had retired from farming in 1969. On Dec 28, 1921, he married Katherine Carlson in Muscatine, Iowa. He was a member of Mary, Our Lady of Peace, church. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Dale Hamerlinck of Sherrard and Mrs. William Hamerlinck of Orion; a son, Charles of Alpha; a brother, Harold of Taylor Ridge; four sisters, Mrs. Mable Keleher of Aledo, Mrs. Esther Boney of Reynolds, Mrs. Mildred Ames of Rock Island and Mrs. George Nimerick of Taylor Ridge; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
