Alvin Curry Jr. dies at age 44; rites Saturday

Alvin Curry Jr., 44, of Route 3, Milan, died about 1 this morning at his home.

According to Coroner James Shaw, death resulted from a self inflicted gunshot 
wound. An inquest is pending.

Funeral services will be at 1 Saturday afternoon at the Larson Funeral Home, 
Milan. The Rev. Donald L. Jones, pastor of Memorial Christian Church, Rock 
Island, Rock Island, will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon tomorrow. Military rites will 
be conducted by Milan American Legion Post. No. 569.

Mr. Curry was born Aug. 5, 1928 in rural Milan, a son of Alvin J. and 
Katherine Carlson Curry. He lived in the Milan area most of his life, and 
resided in Colorado from 1960 to 1964, and in Plymouth, Ill. from 1970 to 1971.

He received his education in rural Milan schools, and attended Sherrard High 
School.

He married Marlene G. Holdt Dec. 14, 1956 in Rock Island. A machine operator 
at the J. I. Case Co., Rock Island, he also had farmed.

Mr. Curry was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of 
Memorial Christian Church; V.F.W. Post No. 9029 of Augusta, Ill.; American 
Legion Post  No. 912 of Plymouth, and the AFL-CIO at J. I. Case.

Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Gonzales of Rock Island, by a 
previous marriage, and Juliann, at home; two sons, Steven W. and Shawn M., 
both at home; a grandson; his parents of rural Milan; a brother Charles E. of 
Alpha; two sisters, Mrs. Dale J. Hamerlinck of Sherrard, and Mrs. William R. 
Hamerlinck of Orion.

He was preceded in death by two sons.
