Rock Island Argus  June 20, 1938
Mrs Mathilda Doeckel, 79, a resident of Rock Island for 58 years, died 4:00 
yesterday afternoon in her home 1402-32nd Street, Rock Island.  Mrs. Doeckel 
was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  
She was born in Westphalia, Germany on Apri/10, 1859, a daughter of Mr. and 
Mrs. Louis Karl Schnitger.  She was educated in that country, and came to 
United States, directly to Rock Island,in 1880.  On Nov. 2, 1881, she was 
married to Frederick Ernest Doeckel.  Mr Doeckel died in 1933.  
Surviving three sons, Fred, Jr; William, and Albert E. Doeckel all of Rock 
Island; 4 daughters, Mesdames Carrie Downing of Sherrard; Emma Hansen and 
Betty Hart of Chicago, and Freda May of Decatur, Il.and a brother Wilhelm in 
Germany.  Two sisters, two brothers, three sons, and a daughter preceded her 
in death. 
The body was taken to Knox Mortuary.  Funeral services will be Wednesday 
afternoon.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mathilda Schnitger Doeckel was my paternal great grandmother, who was born in 
Bad Oeynhausen, Westphalia, Germany.
