Wilhelm, 81, of Rock Island, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church. James was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Rock Island, son of Frederick and Margaret Black Wilhelm. Jim married Marjorie DeSchepper June 1, 1948, in Milan. She preceded him in death April 14, 1992. He later married Mary J. Hamerlinck Watkins June 24, 2000, in Edgington. Jim graduated from Rock Island High School in 1943. He then served as a sergeant in the United States Army until 1946. In 1947, Jim went to work for the Sturtevant and Bordens Dairy until 1970, when he retired. He then returned to work for the Rock Island School District Administration Center until 1990, when he retired. Mr. Wilhelm was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and feeding the birds, and especially enjoyed all his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Julie Sullivan, and her husband, James, Pekin, Ill., Jane Wilhelm, Canton, Mich., Jodi Ballard, Rock Island; sons, James Wilhelm, and his wife, Lynn, Rock Island, Jay Wilhelm, and his wife, Janet, Moline; stepdaughters, Carol Blankenship, Rock Island, Kathy DeSmith, and her husband, David, Geneseo; stepson, Stephen Watkins, and his wife, Melissa, Atkinson; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by a his parents; a sister, Arlene Noack; and a grandson, Kalin Watkins.
