PANKEY was born in Saline County, IL 1 February 1836 to William and Hannah (EMPSON) PANKEY. His father was born July 12, 1814 the son of Hampton PANKEY. In 1856, William H. married Sarah A. BICKERS, daughter of Rev. W. C. BICKERS. To this union seven children were born: Eliza J. PANKEY wife of J. C. WEBB, B. Franklin PANKEY, Robert L. PANKEY, Thomas J. PANKEY, Alice PANKEY, Carrie PANKEY, and Nora PANKEY. In 1868, William H. was elected sheriff of Saline County, IL and served one term. In 1876 he was Vice-president of the Bank of Harrisburg. He served as county commissioner for three years starting in 1875. In 1875, his wife died and in 1884 he married Mrs. C. J. HARRIS. To this union one child was born, Grover C.
