Entered the service April, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training on the U. S. S. San Diego and the U. S. S. Durham. Was aboard the U. S. S. San Diego when it was sunk off the coast of Long Island. Was on the high seas when the Armistice was signed. Discharged October 8, 1919, at St. Louis, Mo.
