Son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Alexander, 1612 South Pasfield street, Springfield. Born June 18, 1899, in Cantrall, Ill. Entered service May 1, 1917. Received his training at Great Lakes, Philadelphia, Pa., and Norfolk, Va. Sailed overseas in May, 1918, aboard the U. S. S. Jeanette Skinner. Served nine months aboard this ship on overseas duty. Was at La Palice, France, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged September. 18, 1919, in New York.
