Son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schleifer, 1910 East Jackson street, Springfield. Born February 1, 1898, in St. Louis, Mo. Entered service April 15, 1917. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station and was assigned to the U. S. S. Culgoa, serving aboard this ship on the high seas. Discharged February 5, 1919, at Brooklyn, N. Y.
