B. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Backus, 622 Black avenue, Springfield. Born June 12, 1889, in Wellsburg, W. Va. Entered service July 10, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at the Rahe Army Auto School, Kansas City, Mo., and at Camp Raritan, N. J. Was at Camp Raritan when the Armistice was signed. Discharged January 28, 1919, at Camp Sherman, Ohio.
