A man named Benjamin Robinson supposed to be a resident of Auburn, Ill, was run over and killed this forenoon at the depot of the Great Western Railroad, in this city. Deceased was under the influence of whiskey, and was seated on the platform, his head resting on his hands and his feet on the rail. An engine and tender, switching backward at the time slowly struck him on the head, and threw him on the track, the wheels passing several times over his body, and turning him over as the engine moved. His arms were severed from the body, his legs broken in several places, his feet mashed, and he was altogether so badly mangled that he hardly held together till confined [?]. Strange as it may seem, he spoke several words after the tragedy, and gave his name and residence. An inquest has been held and the remains are at the Court House for identification.
