Nineteenth Annual Report of the Illinois Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1900
October 5, 1899, Peter Henderson, miner, aged 38 years, married, lost his life in 
the West End Coal Company’s mine, at Springfield, by a blast. He had lighted the 
squib to set off the shot; a number of blasts were being fired at the same time; 
he supposed his shot had gone off and was in the act of returning to the-working 
face to see the result; when about thirty feet from the working face the blast 
went off, the flying coal killing him. He left a widow.
