Obituary of Mrs. Mary Katherine OSWALD, Sangamon County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Jeanne Bennett Illinois State Journal, Springfield, IL Date: October 13, 1940 Mrs. Mary Katherine Oswald, above (Photo), resident of Springfield for seventy-seven years, died at 8:15 p.m. yesterday (October 12, 1940). She was 86 years old. Mrs. Oswald was born in St. Louis, Feb. 27, 1854, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Maldener. She came to this city when 9 years old and had resided here since. She was the widow of George J. Oswald, who died Dec. 30, 1927. They were married Aug 1, 1870. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Anna Rondeau, St. Louis, and Mrs. Clara Maisenbacher, an employee of The State Journal advertising department; three sons, George; William and Albert, all of this city; one brother, Henry Esslinger, city; twenty-four grandchildren. She was the sister of the late John Maldaner, founder of Maldaner's confectionery. Remains were removed to the Staab funeral home where services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart church Rev. W. L.
