Fifteenth Annual Report of the State Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1896
James Vancil, aged 47 years, married, miner, was killed at 1:10 p. m., February 
26, 1896, in a room at the mine of the Sugar Creek Coal Company, Auburn, Sangamon 
county. At the time of the accident he was loading a pit-___ when a piece of top 
coal weighing about 1,000 pounds fell on him, killing him instantly. He left a 
widow and eight children, six of whom are dependents.
