Obituary of John Knox Richey CLAYTON, Schuyler County, Il Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Beth Presley Name of Deceased: John Knox Richey Clayton Name of Newspaper: The Rushville Times Date of Newspaper: 1921 Obituary: John Knox Richey Clayton John Knox Richey Clayton was the son of William and Delila Clayton. He was born in Pennsylvania, Aug. 30, 1835 and came to Illinois when very young. He had two brothers, Samuel and Zebulin, both now deceased; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Peak and Mrs. Mordica Peak of Creston, Iowa, also deceased. He was married to Miss Rebeka Miller Clark, July 4,1855, who passed away forty years ago. To this union was born four children -- one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Weaver of Galesburg, Illinois, William E. Clayton of Rushville, Illinois, John M. Clayton of Bushnell, Illinois, James Clinton Clayton of Industry, Illinois. He was also married to Mrs. Lucy Burdic at Industry, after which they removed to Grant City, Missouri, where he resided for a number of years until the death of his wife to, Aug. 1917, when he returned to Galesburg to live with his daughter, Mrs. Josephine Weaver, who so faithfully and tenderly cared for him until he fell asleep in Jesus arms. He was a member of the Christian church at Grant City, Missouri. At a time of his death he was 86 years old and was very feeble for the last few years. His life seemed to slip away each day, growing weaker and on November 24, 1921, he suffered a slight paraletic stroke from which he never rallied, and on November 29th five days later at 11:45 o'clock he passed away. He is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a kind neighbor and respected by all who knew him. His remains were taken to Rushville, Illinois, where he funeral services were held at the Christian church, and was laid to rest in the Rushville Cemetery.
