Civil War Pension, KITCH, Shelby County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Jerry Garrison On the 1st day of March A.D. 1878 personally appeared before me, a clerk of the county court within and for the County and State aforesaid, Samuel A. Kitch aged 43. years, a resident of Shelby County, Ill who being by me first duly sworn upon his oath according to Law deposes and says that he is the same and the identical Samueal A Kitch who enlisted as a Private of Co. H of the 7th Regt of Ill Cavalry Vols ??? of 61 + 65 and that he was promoted 2nd Lieutenant that he enlisted in said Co. H on the 7th day of September A.D. 1861 and that he was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 15th day of October A.D. 1864. He further states that while in the Service of the United States and while in the line of his duty as a soldier at Belmont Mo on or about the 1st day of May A.D. 1862 He was taken with chronic diarrhea causing piles of which he is now and has been afflicted with since the day and the date of the ???? as aforesaid that since leaving the service his occupation has been that of a farmer and he hereby certifies and appoints T L Reynolds of Shelbyville Illinois his true and his lawful attorney to attend to his claim and that his post office box is at Shelbyville Ill. Kitch ___________________________________________________ State of Kansas County of Pawnee ss On this 5th day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety, personally appeared before me, a clerk of the District Court, a court of record in and for the County and State aforesaid Samuel A. Kitch, aged 56 years, a resident of Grant Twp. County of Pawnee State of Kansas, who, being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Samuel A. Kitch, who was enrolled on the 7th day of Sept., 1861, in Shelby Co., Ill as Private in the Co. H 7th Regt Ill Cav Vols Promoted to 2nd Lt. Nov. 11, 1862 in the war of the rebellion and served at least ninety days, and was honorably discharged at Springfield Ill on the 15th day of Oct, 1864. That he is wholly unable to earn a support by reason of Chronic diarrhea, Piles, Scurvey, Rheumatism + general debility. That said disabilities are not due to his vicious habits, and are to the best of his knowledge and belief, permanent. That he has applied for pension under application no. ______. That he is a pensioner under certificate No. 168959 now drawing pension $6 from the Chicago Agency.
